DOROTHY™ INTERIOR EMULSION PAINT
Dorothy™: a soft mauve-grey that settles into a room like fading petals on linen.
Dorothy is a whispered lilac, sitting somewhere between dusty heather, aged silver and the inside of a crocus petal. There is a powdery cool to it, a quiet ash-rose quality that never tips into sweetness or nursery tones. It feels weathered and worn in, closer to a vintage silk scarf or the bloom on a plum than any bright purple.
In morning light it turns almost dove-grey, soft and contemplative, with the faintest tilt towards pink. By late afternoon the mauve warms up and gains a gentle flush. Under lamplight Dorothy deepens into a smoky heather, holding candles and filament bulbs with a flattering, shadowy glow.
Dorothy works especially well in bedrooms, north-facing sitting rooms, hallways and dressing rooms where a calm, grown-up lilac is wanted. It flatters warm brass, antique silver, aged mirror and unlacquered nickel. It looks handsome against oak, walnut and limed ash, and sits easily alongside oatmeal linen, brushed wool and faded velvet. Pair it with a chalkier off-white trim for softness, or with one of our deeper greens or inky blues for a more confident scheme.
Crafted the Knuckles way, Dorothy is a water-based, low-VOC interior emulsion, hand-mixed in small batches in the UK. The high pigment load gives exceptional coverage and a silky matt finish that sits flat and even on the wall without flashing or sheen.
Expect around 12 m² per litre on a prepared surface, with two coats recommended for full depth and evenness. If you are unsure, start with an A6 sample pot and live with it on the wall for a day or two before committing.
