Callicarpa is a plush, cool-leaning purple with the weight of crushed velvet and the glow of ripe elderberries. There is a blue undertone that keeps it composed rather than sweet, like the flesh of a fig just broken open or ink drawn through silk.

In daylight, Callicarpa reads as a confident aubergine with violet warmth pressing forward. As the light softens it deepens into something almost inky, holding candle flames and lamplight like jewellery against a velvet lining.

It works in dining rooms, small studies, panelled hallways and bedrooms that want to feel held. Try it with Audrey for a crisp off-white contrast, Boston Marrow for a burnished autumn clash, Beryl Mint for an unexpected cool-on-cool conversation, Brooch for an earthy pewter balance, or alongside raw brass, aged walnut and unbleached linen.
